📘 Day 4 – WordPress Beginner to Expert Training

In today’s lesson, we will learn how to work with Themes, Menus, and how to design a Home Page using Elementor. This is a complete practical session with easy steps and interactive tasks.


🎨 1. What is a WordPress Theme?

A WordPress theme controls the layout, design, colors, fonts, header, footer, and overall style of your website.
Think of it as the outer look and feel of your website.

🧠 Quick Task: Go to Appearance → Themes.
Check how many themes are installed by default.

⬇️ 2. How to Install & Activate a Theme

  1. Go to Appearance → Themes
  2. Click on Add New
  3. Search for any theme (Example: Astra, Neve, Blocksy)
  4. Click InstallActivate
Tip: Always choose a theme that is lightweight, updated regularly, and has good ratings.

🧭 3. Creating the Website Menu

The menu helps users navigate through your website (Home, About, Services, Contact, etc.).

Steps:

  1. Go to Appearance → Menus
  2. Create a new menu (Example: Main Menu)
  3. Select pages to add to the menu
  4. Drag & drop to reorder menu items
  5. Choose Display Location (Primary Menu)
  6. Save Menu
Practice: Try adding a dropdown under “Services”.
(Drag a menu item slightly right → becomes a submenu.)

🏠 4. Designing Home Page Using Elementor

Elementor is a powerful page builder that helps you design pages visually.

Steps to Start:

  1. Create a page → Name it Home
  2. Click Edit with Elementor
  3. Choose Full Width layout
  4. Start designing using sections & widgets

🧩 5. Important Elementor Widgets We Used Today

  • Slider – for banner slideshow
  • Grid – for product or service listing
  • Container – helps create structured layouts
  • Icon Box – icons + heading + short text
  • Heading & Text – for titles and descriptions
  • Button – for call-to-action like Enroll Now, Contact Us
  • Image – add pictures or brand graphics

🎨 6. Understanding Style Settings

Elementor provides deep customization:

  • Colors – text, background, border
  • Typography – font size, weight, spacing
  • Padding & Margin – spacing control
  • Alignment – left, center, right, justify
  • Hover Effects – animations on mouse hover
  • Box Shadow – modern UI design effect
Mini Challenge: Create a 3-column service section using Icon Box widgets.
